Moruti Mthalane retains IBF flyweight title

Moruti Mthalane has retained his IBF flyweight title after beating Andrea Sarritzu in Italy.  The South African beat the home favourite in the seventh round, after Sarritzu's corner threw in the towel.  It's the third time that Mthalane has defended his title.  Mthalane (28-2, 19 KOs) won the Title by outpointing Julio Cesar Miranda in November 2009, and retained it by defeating Zolani Tete and Johnriel Casimero, stopping both in the fifth round.

Rhys Roberts fell at the last hurlde as his bid to become the Featherweight Prizefighter champion was thwarted by veteran Choi Tsveenpurev. Roberts beat Ian Bailey bin the quarter final with a unanimous points decision and then overcame Tryo JKames to reach the final. The final was hardly a classic but the 40 year old Tsveenpurev used his greater ring experience to pick off his opponent and then spoil when under pressure.
