Malignaggi upsets Senchenko in world title tilt

Andrew Wake | 30.04.12 10:04

Brash New Yorker Paulie Malignaggi is a world champion once again after he halted Ukraine's previously unbeaten Vyacheslav Senchenko to win the WBA welterweight title on Sunday. With his left eye badly closed from Malignaggi's pounding fists, Senchenko looked a beaten man and the referee stepped in to save him at 1.10 of the ninth round. Malignaggi, a former Ricky Hatton opponent and IBF title holder at light-welterweight, improved his record to 31 - 4 (7 KOs).

Ashley Theophane blog: London Needs You

Andrew Wake | 30.04.12 09:56

It is that time again for all Londoners to cast a vote that will affect our lives for the next four years. Ken Livingstone and Boris Johnson will be going at it again for the title of Mayor of London. I must say I've never really been a fan of either man. Ken is anti-boxing and anti-cars. This affects me directly; both as a resident and more importantly, in my chosen profession. Boris on the other hand, has supported All Stars boxing club's Mayor Cup tournament, every season, ...

Chad Dawson defeated veteran Bernard Hopkins by majority decision in Atlantic City on Saturday night to win the WBC light-heavyweight crown, but like their first meeting it was a fight full of fouls and controversies. Originally the American pair locked horns last October, with the bout ultimately being ruled a no contest because Hopkins sustained an injury when Dawson wrestled him to the canvas. This encounter managed to get all the way through to the final bell, but there were plenty of ...

Andrew Wake | 29.04.12 07:10

Billy Joe Saunders underlined his potential for the top by winning the vacant Commonwealth middleweight crown with a one round blast out of Tony Hill at the historic Royal Albert Hall on Saturday night. The 2008 Olympian, who is now unbeaten in 13 outings, came out of the blocks throwing fast punches and soon it became too much for Hill to take. A series of combinations landed on the target before the referee stepped in. In the evening's main supporting contest, Sam Webb picked up a ra...

Andrew Wake | 28.04.12 09:13

Tony Bellew sent a chilling warning to Euro champ Eduard Gutknecht after a stunning fifth round knockout of Danny McIntosh in his British light heavyweight title defence live on Sky Sports at the Echo Arena in Liverpool. The hometown star delivered an over hand right at the start of the fifth that was a fitting finish to The Big Bang billing, and there was only one winner from the start as Bellew bossed proceedings in front of his raucous army of fans.
