The Boxing Writers Association of America is pleased to announce
that Colin Hart has been chosen as the 2011 winner of the Nat
Fleischer award for "Excellence in Boxing Journalism." The vote was
conducted among past winners of the Fleischer award.
Hart, 76, becomes the first writer from England to win this award
and the third
Brit, after Hugh McIlvanney in 1986 and Ken Jones in 1992. The
award was
first given by the BWAA in 1972, to Barney Nagler.

Unbeaten super-bantamweight Scott Quigg put himself in line for
a tilt at world honours when he blasted Venezuela's Franklin Varela
at the Castle Leisure in Bury on Saturday night (July 23).

Stephen Smith claimed another tight points decision over John Simpson to win the British Featherweight title in another cracking contest between the two in Liverpool last night.

Matty Askin stopped Neil Dawson in the 6th round to claim the vacant Central Area Cruiserweight title at Robin Park in Wigan.
After a slow start Askin found his rhythm and started to throw his shots from round 3 onwards. Eventually the body shots had their effect and after catching Dawson with a right to the side of the head, the Rotherham man staggered and stumbled to the ropes and the referee stepped in to save him with 2 mins 48 secs of the round on the clock.

Local boy Rocky Fielding surprised a talented line up to land the Prizefighter Super Middleweight title at Liverpool Olympia.

WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko made short work of his WBC heavyweight title defence against Odlanier Solis in Cologne.

Welsh welterweight Fred Evans clinched gold as the GB men and women won seven medals at the Strandja Cup in Bulgaria.
