Wladimir Klitschko will defend his heavyweight titles against
Francesco Pianeta at the SAP arena Mannheim, Germany on May 4.
Pianeta, 28, will be something of an unknown quantity for the
majority fight fans, but he's got an engaging story.
In late 2009 he had to face and overcome his toughest ever foe,
cancer. The illness prevented him boxing for a short time but he
bounced back in 2010 and has since taken his record to 28-0-1 (15
KOs).
"I was in Wladimir's camp as a sparring ...

It will mean that he is out of action until November 26
next year at least.

Fresh from impressing an enthusiastic South African audience,
Preston's Matty Clarkson has attached his focus firmly on titles as
he aims to make 2013 a year to remember.
Clarkson's stirring seventh round stoppage over local fighter,
Tshepang Mohale, on Saturday was the Coldwell Boxing star's second
straight victory since his autumn setback against Courtney Fry and
the Lancashire light-heavyweight is adamant that the lone defeat on
his ledger is definitely out of his system.
"Th...

Looking forward to his next show on March 8 at Ravenscraig
Sports Facility, Bellshill based promoter Paul Graham admits the
logistics of his biggest show today has kept him busy in the weeks
to build up.
"We have twelve fights on the card, and to match the
fighters so they're in competitive and meaningful fights has been
tough," he said.
"On a few occasions I have agreed a fight, only for the
fight to fall through down to injury or something else. But this is
boxing, so you do ...

Steve Wood isn't one for hyperbole. In the game for over 20
years, the Manchester-based promoter has a reputation as someone
who delivers, while leaving the histrionics to others.
Wood, though, has such belief in his current crop of
fighters that he is prepared to buck the trend and make a bold
prediction.
"We started 2013 with three British champions [Brian Rose,
Kevin Satchell and Kenny Anderson]," stated Wood, "but should have
eight by the end of the year, which is...

Ricky Burns has been left "gutted" by news that his scheduled

The Scotsman, who holds the WBO lightweight crown, was due
to square off with the IBF champion at the Wembley Arena on March
16.
It comes after a December 2012 defence was also scrapped
after Jose Ocampo had to withdraw due to the unfortunate passing of
his trainer.
Burns said on his official Twitter page: "Absolutely
