24 Fights 23 wins (10 by KO) 1 draw

ST HELENS is world famous for its rugby league team, but British, Commonwealth and WBA inter-continental champion Martin Murray is enhancing the town's boxing reputation.

The first three years of Murray's career were spent learning his trade on undercards, but he burst onto the scene winning titles in back-to-back contests last year.

In May, Murray scored a shutout points win over Australian Peter Mitrevski Jr to claim the Commonwealth 160lb strap.

Then in November, Murray knocked out Brazil's former WBO world title challenger Carlos Nascimento to claim his inter-continental crown.

But the best moment of his career so far came on June 18 this year when ground down Trowbridge's Nick Blackwell to win the vacant British middleweight championship.

In December he came within touching distance of being crowned a world champion when he earned a draw with WBA kingpin Felix Sturm in Germany. Murray is hoping for a rematch in 2012.
