Long in the shadow his older brother Ricky, Matthew is now accepted as a top level fighter in his own right.

The younger Hatton sibling's crowning glory came when he defeated former two-time world title challenger Gianluca Branco in March 2010 to take the European welterweight bauble.

After seeing off Yuriy Nuzhnenko and Robert Belge in title defences, "Magic" Matthew challenged for the WBC light-middleweight championship and took the highly rated Mexican star Saul Alvarez the full distance with a gutsy, but losing, display.

Matthew will now look for more world title oppotunities at his natural weight of 147lbs.
