Matthew Macklin has said that he hopes to secure a fight with
Julio Cesar Chavez Jnr if he defeats Joachim Alcine in Las Vegas on
September 15.
The fight is likely to make up one of the key supporting
contests for Chavez Jnr's clash with Sergio Martinez and
Macklin.
The Birmingham-born Irishman lost to Martinez in March this year
but said that he would prefer to face Chavez rather the Argentinian
because it could enable him gain revenge for fellow Irish boxers
Andy Lee and John Duddy.
"Alcine on September 15 is looking almost definite so far as I
know and I am hoping to have it confirmed in next few days,"
Macklin told World Boxing News.
"I would love the fight with Chavez," he added. "I think
stylistically it has 'Fight of the Year' written all over it
and it's a fight that I think would be tough, but that I know
I would come out on top in."
This said, he is still picking Martinez to beat Chavez when the
meet.
