Anthony Ogogo got Team GB's Olympic boxing campaign off to a
winning start yesterday and dedicated the performance to his
stricken mother.
The middleweight from Lowestoft, 23, was on the verge of pulling
out of the tournament when his mum Teresa suffered a brain
haemorrhage a few weeks ago.
But he decided to press ahead with his dreams and powered past
Junior Castillo of the Dominican Republic by 13 points to six.
"It's one for my mum," he said afterwards. "I'll tell her about
it on the phone. I don't think she'll have been able to watch
it.
"I didn't think I was going to box, but she is getting
better."
Meanwhile, this afternoon Welsh welterweight sailed into the
next round of the tournament by beating Algeria's Alyas Abbadi
18-10.
