After weeks of searching Canadian promoter Yvon Michel has found
a ranked contender to meet Adonis Stevenson in an elimination bout
which will put the winner in line for a shot at IBF
super-middleweight champion Carl Froch.
According to ESPN notable fighters including Edwin Rodriguez,
Thomas Oosthuizen, James DeGale, Mikkel Kessler, Kelly Pavlik,
Sakio Bika and, most recently, Andre Dirrell all turned down the
chance to face Stevenson.
However, Chicago's Donovan George has answered the call and will
face Quebec's Stevenson at the Bell Centre in Montreal on August
11.
The bout will feature on the undercard of Tavoris Cloud's title
defence to Jean Pascal.
"Don is very excited about this fight," said Leon Margules,
George's co-promoter.
"Don has always wanted this fight and waited a long time for
things to develop. We believe Don has a very good chance to win
this fight and challenge for his first world title. It will be a
very exciting fight for the fans between two punchers."
