After playing such a demanding role in one of British boxing's
most brutal performances this year, Driffield's Curtis Woodhouse is
ready to return to the stage he loves as he aims to return to
winning ways on September 28.
After carving out a well-earned reputation as a crowd-pleasing
warrior, Woodhouse is desperate to demonstrate his fistic bravado
in the higher echelons of the domestic light-welterweight scene,
but he must get past Derby's Dave Ryan to fulfil that fight
fantasy.
"Curtis Woodhouse is fast becoming one of the most exciting
names on the boxing scene because he delivers entertainment every
time he fights," said promoter Dave Coldwell.
"His fight against Dale Miles will more than likely rank as the
best domestic battle this year and that says a lot when you think
about the great fights that we've seen this year.
"Every single time he steps through the ropes all he wants to do
is put a show on, his fight against Dave Ryan will be no different
and I guarantee anyone buying a ticket that they will be treated to
an absolute war."
Since making the transition from footballer to boxer,
Woodhouse's journey has brought mixed fortunes but the former
Birmingham City midfielder has not been found wanting in the guts
category and his split decision loos to prized amateur Frankie
Gavin in 2011 was conclusive proof that the Yorkshire favourite can
compete at a gloried level.
With the Dave Ryan scrap serving as an eliminator for the 10st
English strap, Coldwell believes that his charge is closing in on
title opportunities.
"Curtis has never done things the easy way since he turned to
boxing and we knew deep down that he'd have to encounter some tough
tasks along the way. He's finally proved the doubters wrong with
recent performances and now we're in the process of trying to get
him access for domestic belts.
"The light-welter division is wide open in Britain at the moment
and I definitely feel that Curtis is in that mix that's currently
competing for the top honours. He's got a very tough fight coming
up against Dave Ryan but it's a fight that he'll up for and one
that he'll be going all out to win."
