Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez insists that he is not taking the Josesito
Lopez lightly.
The pair meet in Las Vegas on September 15 with Lopez looking to
score another surprise victory.
In June he stepped up to welterweight to score a shock win over
Victor Ortiz, but he's unlikely to be able turn the trick again
against Alvarez seven pounds north.
"Josesito Lopez is a very dangerous rival, not only because he's
a great boxer, but because he has that hunger, wanting to become
someone" Alvarez said.
He also played down suggestion that he has a huge advantage in
this fight because Lopez is not a natural light-middleweight.
"There have been fighters who have put on great battles despite
the fact they weren't fighting in their divisions" he said.
Alvarez added that he is hoping to face pound for pound great
Floyd Mayweather Jnr in the near future.
The September 15 bill will also see WBC featherweight champion
Jhonny Gonzalez defending his title against Daniel Ponce de
Leon.
Golden Boy Promotions has promised both fighters a bonus of
$100,000 if they can win by knockout.
Mexican legend Erik Morales as said that he will hang up his
gloves if he loses his rematch with IBF and WBC champion Danny
Garcia in October.
The veteran has enlisted the services of a nutritionist to help
him make the 140lbs weight limit after losing the WBC crown on the
scales prior to his first meeting with Garcia earlier this
year.
And it seems like this could be one last title push as he's
stressed that he'll call time on his career if he does not emerge
victorious.
