Fast rising bantamweight prospect Randy Caballero retained his
NABO title and took his unbeaten run to 16 fights on Friday night
with a unanimous ten round victory over Manuel Roman.
Fighting in his hometown of Indio, California, Caballero sent
his foe to the canvas with a quick combination in the second round
before bossing the rest of the contest.
In the end the judges posted scores of 97-92 and 96-93
(twice).
21-year-old Caballero did his best work from range, snapping
home jabs before following up with perfectly timed right crosses
but often Roman would close the space and attempt to make things
scrappy.
Roman, from Tijuana, Mexico, finished the bout strongly but
never had enough in his arsenal to deal with Caballero's speed and
accuracy.
On the same card, lightweight prospect Michael Perez had to
clamber off the canvas in the final round to earn a split decision
over Fidel Maldonado Jnr.
The win takes Perez's slate to 17 - 1 - 1 (10 KOs).
