Hull southpaw Luke Campbell is now guaranteed at least a silver
medal after defeating Japan's Satoshi Shimizu in today's
bantamweight semi-final.
The 24-year-old, who won a silver at the World Championships
last year, showed a tremendous work rate in posting a 20-11
verdict.
Campbell will now face Ireland's John Joe Nevin in the final
tomorrow night.
Nevin, from Mullingar, County Westmeath, beat Cuba's Lazaro
Alvarez 19-14 to secure his shot at amateur boxing's top
honour.
The pair met at the World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan last
October, with Campbell winning a close contest on a countback.
"He is the same fighter as he was then, he hasn't changed, I
haven't changed," Campbell told the BBC. "But I feel as though I'm
getting better."
Also this afternoon, Anthony Ogogo bowed out of London 2012 with
a bronze medal at middleweight.
The former Big Brother housemate found himself on the canvas
twice before dropping a 9-16 decision to Esquiva Falcao of
Brazil.
