Welsh wizard Fred Evans boxed superbly this afternoon to book
his place on the Olympic quarter finals.
The welterweight is the second boxer from Team GB to reach the
final eight and secured his passage by beating Lithuanian fourth
seed Egidijus Kavaliauskas 11 - 7.
After a tame opening round, Cardiff's Evans got his punches
following in the second before really turning up the volume in the
final session.
"I was expecting him to come straight at me but he stepped off
and it got a little bit cagey," he told the BBC afterwards.
"But I caught him early in the last round a few times and that's
what made him come on and allowed me to open up. It was a terrific
last round and I'm so happy I've pulled it out.
"The atmosphere is unbelievable. Sunday was a big shock, but I
felt a bit more comfortable this time because I knew what to
expect.
"I wanted to box him again because I knew I was better than him
in the worlds."
His opponent in the last eight will be Canada's Custio Clayton,
who defeated Australia's Cameron Hammond today.
