The fact that the US men's boxing team has crashed out of the
Olympic Games without a single medal came as a surprise to many,
but not to James Toney.
The former world middleweight, super-middleweight and
cruiserweight champion has said he knew his compatriots would be
"garbage".
Toney is never shy when it comes to giving an opinion and wasted
no time in ripping into Team USA's poor performance.
"Worst team ever. B-Class," the 43-year-old told Reuters.
"They weren't worth watching, every single one of them was
garbage."
Toney said that he had offered his help to the US Olympic team
before the tournament began but it was rejected.
Toney offered his services for a role within the coaching set-up
to help add to their record 48 golds but expected it would be
rejected.
"James Toney is too controversial. I'm the last old school
fighter. I would clean the house out," said the man known as
'Lights Out'.
Despite his years, Toney is still competing in the heavyweight
division and says that he would relish the opportunity to have a
dust up with Britain's Tyson Fury.
"I would love to fight Tyson Fury. I would travel to England and
knock him out," Tony said.
"I have five years left, I'm in the best shape I have been in 10
years, passed every medical. Look at my record, beaten 10 world
champions. Vinny Maddalone was a C-class fighter, let's get it
on."
