Team GB record breaker Nicola Adams has ensured that she will
leave the Olympic Games with at least a silver medal.
The Leeds boxer, 29, defeated India's Mary Kom 11-6 yesterday
afternoon and will today face three-time world champion Ren Cancan
for amateur boxing's top prize.
Adams, who will become the first British female to win a medal
in boxing, had previously defeated Kom at the World Championships
earlier this year and was always on top again in this contest.
"Words can't express how I'm feeling right now," said Adams. "To
reach an Olympic final, I've dreamt of this since I was 12 years
old, I'm really happy.
"She [Kom] is a five-time world champion and you have got to be
special to do that. It shows how much I've improved by beating her.
Against Ren, I'll do everything the same and treat it like a normal
tournament."
China's Ren defeated Marlen Esparza 10-8 in their semi-final
bout.
Also going for gold today is Irish boxing sensation Katie
Taylor.
The four-time world champion was simply too good for Mavzuna
Charieva of Tajikistand, running out a clear 17-9 winner.
Taylor will now take on Russia's Sofya Ochigava in the
lightweight final.
