Nicola Adams is a name that will long be talked about in the
boxing fraternity.
The 29-year-old from Leeds made history at the ExCel Arena this
afternoon by becoming the first ever female boxer to win an Olympic
gold medal.
Adams sent China's two-time world champion Ren Cancan to the
canvas in the second round before running out a 16-7 winner.
It truly was a spectacular performance and such was Adams
command that she even had the nerve to carry out a perfect Ali
shuffle in the fourth and final session.
"It's a dream come true. I've just wanted this all my life. To
think I've finally done it, I'm finally here. All this support has
really made my day," said Adams, who has previously starred as an
extra in both Emmerdale and Coronation Street.
"I'd like thank all the supporters here, all the supporters
who've followed me.
"I've brought that gold medal back to Leeds.
"It's amazing. To have the flag lifted, I just can't wait. I'm
just so happy and overwhelmed."
No doubt a plethora of promoters will hoping to tempt her into
the professional side of the sport, but a beaming Adams has played
down speculation and said that she hopes to add to her medal haul
in Rio in 2016.
