US welterweight Errol Spence has been given
back his Olympic place despite losing his last contest.
The 22-year-old dropped a 13-11 verdict to
Krishan Vikas on Friday but the result has been overturned by
AIBA.
Amateur boxing's world governing body ruled
that the Indian fighter should have been penalised for holding and
spitting out his mouthpiece in the third and final round.
In a tournament seemingly littered with controversies, it is the
second fight to have its original decision overturned following the
much talked about referring shambles in the fight between Magomed
Abdulhamidov and Satoshi Shimizu.
Spence is now the only American boxer left in the tournament and
can guarantee a medal if he defeats Andrey Zamkovoy of Russia on
Tuesday.
