Former WBO heavyweight champion Corries Sanders has sadly died
in a South African hospital after being shot in the stomach.
The retired boxer was dining at a restaurant in Johannesburg
when three masked men burst in and attempted a robbery.
North West Police have revealed that men opened fire at random
and it appears that Sanders was caught in the cross fire.
He was rushed to Kalafong hospital and underwent surgery, but
unfortunately his life could not be saved.
Sanders finished his career in 2008 with a record of 42 wins
against just four defeats.
He will be best remembered for stopping Wladimir Klitschko
inside two rounds to take the giant Ukrainian's WBO crown in March
2003.
Everyone at Hatton Promotions sends their condolences to his
family.
