Gavin McDonnell grabbed the vacant Central Area
super-bantamweight crown at packed Doncaster Dome on Saturday
night.
The 26-year-old, who is the twin brother of European
bantamweight champion Jamie, stopped Halifax's Scott Gladwin in the
sixth round.
A solid uppercut did the damage and it forced Gladwin to drop to
the canvas. Bravely he got back up and tried to survive until the
end of the round but McDonnell's pressure was enough to bring about
the intervention of referee Michael Alexander.
On the same bill, Sheffield bin man Carl "Born 2 Be" Wild
retained his Central Area light-heavyweight crown with a 96-95
points win over John Anthony on the card of Howard Foster.
