Hundreds turn out for David Haye open day

Hundreds of boxing fans from all around the globe queued around the block for the opportunity to meet David Haye when the former WBA heavyweight champion held an open a day at his gym on Saturday.

In fact the response was so great that the Hayemaker decided to open the gym an hour earlier than originally planned and was still there signing autographs well into the night.

Some fans had travelled from France and Germany but there was also a big turn out from people hailing from Scotland, the Midlands and the North of England.

"I wanted to give the many fans who have followed me throughout my career an opportunity to have a photo and gain an autograph, but I did not expect such a massive response" Haye said.  

"My only regret was that I could not spend more time talking to the fans who had been waiting in the queue for over four hours, some had their young children with them, so I was overwhelmed with their determination to get to see me".
