Thousands flocked to Brockton, Massachusetts on Sunday afternoon
to see a statue of heavyweight great Rocky Marciano unveiled.
More than 7,000 people stood to watch a huge tarpaulin lifted
off the 24 foot statue outside the city's football stadium, which
is also named after the boxer.
Amongst the crowd were a number of boxing's most famous names,
including Larry Holmes, Thomas Hearns, Evander Holyfield and Mickey
Ward.
"I was getting very teared up today," the boxer's Rocky Marciano
Jr told CBS news. "It's a city that he always loved and a city that
always loved him."
"Sixty years later and he's still a popular person," said
brother, Peter Marciano. "I'm so proud of what he did and so proud
of what he still stands for -- work hard, have a dream, go after it
and be relentless.
Marciano retired with a perfect 49-0 record. He died in a plane
crash in 1969.
