London-based Iraqi heavyweight Ali Adams has been banned
from boxing for two years for use of performance enhancing
drugs.
UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) confirmed that the 30-year-old tested
positive for the steroid Stanozolol after losing to Audley Harrison
in May.
Adams claimed that the positive test was the result of him
taking medication for a neck injury, but UKAD said that the drug
"is banned at all times in sport, there is no reason for it to be
found in an athlete's system."
Stanozolol is the same drug that sprinter Ben Johnson was found
to have taken after the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988.
