Orlando Cruz, boxing's first active gay fighter, moved closer to
a world title shot in Kissimmee, Florida last night when he
outpointed Jorge Pazos over 12 rounds.
The Puerto Rican southpaw, defending his WBO Latino
featherweight title, boxed smartly before being rewarded with
judges scores of 117-111 and 118-110 (twice).
He said afterwards that he was pleased with the support he's
received since announcing his sexuality earlier this month and was
glad that the fans turned out in force for this fight.
On the same bill, highly ranked welterweight Vicente Mosquera
halted Daniel Attah in five, while unbeaten flyweight Jonathan
Gonzalez put away Danny Flores in six.
