Manchester-based VIP Promotions look to continue a tremendous
start to the boxing season with a packed card at the Oldham Sports
Centre on Saturday October 20 featuring exciting unbeaten prospects
Tommy Stubbs and Liam Taylor.
"It's been a perfect October," said promoter Steve
Wood. "There was a full house and great atmosphere at
the Blackpool Winter Gardens when Brian Rose spectacularly knocked
out Vivian Harris.
"We had four VIP fighters in Prizefighter, had both the
finalists and our man Terry Flannigan upset the odds to win
it. And we've had a good promotion at the Reebok Stadium
where we had all eight winners and Shayne Singleton and Luke
Blackledge became Masters champions. So everything's
going really well and we're now looking forward to a great Oldham
show."
Local lad Stubbs is a former star amateur who was a senior ABA
champion three years in a row before turning over last
year.
Since then, Tommy has impressed in moving to 3-0, with
fight-legend Ricky Hatton even claiming the skilful
super-bantamweight has the potential to be a future world
champion. Relishing the opportunity to fight in his
hometown, Tommy is promising an exciting performance and a great
show.
"I broke my thumb after my last fight in April so I was out for
a bit and haven't had as many fights as I've wanted to," said
Stubbs, 22.
"So I'm really looking forward to this fight; it's my first
six-rounder and I'll be able to showcase my skills off even more
over the longer distance.
"I just can't wait for this show. It's in my hometown
and it'll be good to get out there and show my boxing off to all
the people in the area. I've fought in Oldham before and it
was packed and a really top atmosphere.
"This show will be really good, there's some great talent on
like Liam Taylor who is a really excellent kid, and Sam Omidi
too."
"At VIP Promotions we're about turning promising fighters into
champions and giving the public the chance to watch these boxers
develop," said Wood. "I know that on this Oldham show
the fans will see fighters who, in the future, will go on to
achieve the kind of successes that the likes of Brian Rose and
Terry Flannigan have and it's exciting for the fans to follow them
on their journeys."
Appearing alongside Tommy Stubbs at the Oldham Sports Centre on
October 20 will be a host of unbeaten boxers from across the North
West including Middleton's Liam Taylor and Aaron
Michael Jnr; Oldham's Sam 'Shokz' Omidi and Marvin
'Marvellous' Greaves; and Blackburn's Kurt Grieve. Also
appearing will be Southport cruiserweight Mike
Stafford and Salford's James Brown.
