Devon Alexander

Amir Khan's hopes of fighting IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander have been dashed as the American has agreed to defend against Shawn Porter on November 30 instead.

Khan has been linked to a May meeting with pound-for-pound great Floyd Mayweather Jnr, but had stated that he still hoped to square off with Alexander in December.

Alexander versus Porter will take place in San Antonio, Texas on a bill which also features Leo Santa Cruz's WBC super-bantamweight title defence against Cesar Seda.

Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, told Espn.com that he is working on arranging an alternative fight for Khan, but would not be drawn into a discussion on the rumours surrounding Mayweather.

The winner of Alexander-Porter will have to face mandatory challenger Kell Brook providing the unbeaten Sheffield man comes through next Saturday's clash with Ricky Hatton-conqueror Vyacheslav Senchenko.
