Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach would welcome Sergio Martinez
as an opponent for his charge Miguel Cotto.
Cotto blew away Delvin Rodriguez inside three round at the
weekend. It was his first fight since enlisting Roach's services
and ended a two-fight losing run.
Afterwards, talk turned to a clash with Mexico's Saul "Canelo"
Alvarez, but Roach says he would be happy for Cotto to move up a
weight division and face middleweight number one Martinez.
"I know his style pretty well, and I think I know how to beat
Sergio Martinez," Roach said at the post-fight press
"He's a great athlete. He's very fast, of course. But the thing
is, he does have some flaws in his armour. I think we'd take
advantage of them. That would be a fight I would love to get ready
Martinez is current sidelined due to a new injury and is unlike
to box again until the spring.
