A Florida jury has convicted the husband of boxer Christy Martin
of attempted second-degree murder, the Orlando Sentinel has
reported.
James Martin, 68, was found guilty of all three counts against
him.
Christy Martin, who once made the cover of Sports Illustrated,
was stabbed and shot on November 23rd 2010.
"I don't think it's hit me yet," said Christy Martin, who now
uses her maiden name, Salter,. "To be honest with you, I'm almost
speechless."
During the trial, the jury spent three days listening to
witnesses, including Christy Martin and Sherry Jo Lusk.
Christy Martin was planning to leave her husband for Lusk,
prosecutors said. James Martin responded with threats and later
attacked his wife.
"This is Christy's biggest win of her life," said prosecutor
Ryan Vescio, according to the Sentinel.
James Martin, who faces up to life in prison, will be sentenced
on June 26.
